Arduino SPI Bus interfaces (part 2) – How to extend Arduino resources with Archiduino

We released a new video on our YouTube channel. “Xtendino libraries – double slave test program – Tutorial” will show you how it’s easy to implement the necessary code in the sketch for use Xtendino with Archiduino to expand the resources of Arduino via the SPI bus.

About the SPI bus interfaces project

Thanks to the high performance of the SPI bus, you can send a command in less than a ms. In fact, the time taken for the transmission of a byte is less than 4 microseconds.

With Archiduino along with the library Xtendino, you can implement on the Arduino the following resources:

LCD and keypad
RTC
EEPROM
digital inputs and outputs
analog inputs and outputs
up to three serial ports (one hardware and two software)

The library Xtendino has been specifically designed to handle one or more slave boards.

The enabling of slaves is managed by software, not via the chip-select of the SPI bus. In this way you are not using the resources of the Arduino board that operates as a master.Please note that the SPI bus is not suitable to operate over long distances, but for an experimental use and educational purposes it offers good performance and it’s proved to be sufficiently reliable.
